While moving across the country can be a stressful experience, moving locally can seem like quite an undertaking also. Even if you're only moving down the block, you'll have to prepare so you can be organized and calm throughout your move. Learn tips and tricks for moving locally that can help you move locally with no or less cost.
Skip the Packers & Movers
. A local move can easily be done with the help of family and friends. Rent a truck and a trailer for all of your gear, and take care to load the truck in an orderly manner. Because you're not moving too far away, most friends and family will be happy to help at both your old home and unloading at your new home. If that is not happening you can also get the packing boxes and do a self packing and call the moving company with truck and few helpers with minimum expanses. Mark all of your boxes clearly so your helpers know where to drop them off.
Break Up the Days
Moving locally may tempt you to get all of the work and moving done in one day. You'll probably be excited to have all of your belongings in your new house and want to unload and unpack right away. However, try to break it up into two or three days if you are moving by yourself so you don't overdo it. Schedule one day for packing the truck and getting your things to the new house, and the next day for unpacking. You don’t have to pay if you do the unpacking by yourself , but you'll be rested and ready to tackle the day's job.
Get to Know the Neighbourhood
Since you're moving locally, head over to your new neighbourhood as often as you can. Neighbours will be happy to meet you, and you can take some time getting to know the schools, parks and stores close to you. If you have children it can be beneficial to take the opportunity to get to know their new home and neighbourhood so the transition is easier. All it takes is a few Saturdays of exploring, so when you move into your new home, it's an easy and exciting change.
Moving Equipment
When getting ready to move, you'll need to make sure you have the right equipment. You can purchase boxes from SEC PAC , but you also can check with local businesses for boxes they are willing to give you for free. Check with local office supply stores for leftover paper boxes that have lids and are good for stacking. Call SEC PAC and ask for trip rates so you have a good picture of how much your move will cost. Truck rental companies also available in every city, for moving large pieces of furniture, and tie-down straps. Those will be added to the cost of the truck rental.
